A Generous Life
February 4, 2010
Hello to all of you generous people. We kicked off our 40 Day Spiritual Journey to a more Generous Life this past Sunday. A nice daily devotion book was given out to every family to use during this 40 day campaign. If you were not present or were unable to pick up your devotion book come this Sunday and pick one up. I addressed the question of “Why should we become generous Christians?” The overall issue to keep in mind is stewardship.
Stewardship is the biblical truth that God owns all that there is and we are His managers, supervisors or stewards. We do not own anything; we just manage it. You can apply this to all things in life: family, children, money, cars, jobs, etc. All belongs to God and we are His managers. So why should we be generous? I gave reasons why we should become generous givers to God’s work this past Sunday. I am not going to re-teach the lesson here but I do encourage you to go to our new website at www.lifechurchtexas.com/net and listen to the lesson. Some of the reasons that I gave are as follows:
- Giving to God allows you to see God as your Provider
- Giving to God allows you to overcome financial fears and worries
- Giving to God allows you to bring God’s order to your finances
- Giving to God allows you to fight the dragon of materialism
- Giving to God allows you to experience more joy
I really encourage all to be faithful in reading the 40 Day Devotional Guide to Generous Living and do the worksheets and answer the questions that are asked each week. The devotional guide has addressed topics such as: God is the provider of every good thing in your life, practical advice about giving to God, your role as manager/steward, even the poor are to give to God, set up a plan to give 10% to the Lord’s work, the seven great surprises of a faithful giver, etc. As pastor and shepherd I want God’s blessings in your lives and I know that the one obstacle that many have to receiving these blessings is letting go of money and material items and letting God have control of these areas of our lives. I am praying that God moves in each person, each family and in our church to be more generous to God and each other. I will be addressing what I believe to be one of the most misunderstood topics in the whole bible this weekend. I invite you to come and be in attendance and hear what the bible says about this very important topic. I look forward to seeing you this weekend.
