Frequently Asked Questions
Why a new church?
New churches, like new babies, tend to grow faster (and sometimes healthier) than established ones. Statistics prove that new churches do a better job at reaching unchurched people than established churches.
Why this new church?
At Life Community Church, we believe that God is calling us to be a church that is devoted to reaching the unchurched person and the non-believing person with the liberating message of hope and love as it is communicated in the Bible. We believe that God is calling us to be a church where people from all walks of life can come together as a "church." A church where black and white, rich and poor, old and young, blue collar and white can come together and experience a genuine encounter with the God that created us and wants to know us. It is not the building; it is the people that make a church. People that care for each other. People that support one another. Church is not for perfect people. It is for those who know what it is like to fall and get back up again. People who realize that there is not such thing as a perfect person. We at Life Community Church are committed to people. How did Life Community Church start?
In July 2003 Life Community Church began in the home of Hal & Tamara Helton. Pastor Hal had a vision of a church that was dedicated to reaching those people who were not in church and those who were without Christ in their lives. Pastor Hal had the vision of making church like the first church that was started in the book of Acts. They began meeting on Saturday evenings because some of the people that shared this vision had commitments on Sunday mornings. At the first service there were twelve adults and children. This number grew throughout the summer with a high attendance of fifty-five. The church began looking for a location to hold services in. No schools were available for us to rent. We were able to rent the facilities of The Bridge Community Church on Saturday evenings. And so that is where we are currently at.
What about our children?
One of the things that we value the most at Life Community Church is our children. We believe that children are dear to Jesus and we must value them as He did. Jesus loved children. He loved the purity that they offered to those who valued them. Jesus loved the simplistic way that children portrayed His message of love. There are important lessons that we can learn from children (Luke 18:15-17). We have a nursery for babies and toddlers. We have preschool for those not yet in kindergarten, this class meets each week during the adult teaching time. They sing, play, and learn Bible stories.
Our Adventure Kids is an exciting time each week for children ages 5 through 6th grades. Each week is an adventure packed time of fun games and exciting Bible stories. Our children also have various activities throughout the year to participate in such as; Backyard Splash and pre-teen camp during the summer.
What about teenagers?
We have an energetic youth ministry. The Bible is used to equip our students to meet the challenges of being a teenager in the 21st Century. Students participate in a variety of activities year round such as; youth camp, retreats, camping trips, and mission trips. Our teenagers are also involved in ministering in different areas of ministry in Life Community Church.
What can I expect if I come to Life Community Church?
You can expect to be welcomed by friendly people who really care for you. You can expect authentic worship of God through contemporary music led by a live band in a casual atmosphere. You can expect relative teachings from the bible as they apply to your life. You can expect your babies and children to be well cared for by carefully screened child care workers. You can expect to not be pressured to do anything or give anything. You can expect to make some new friends. You can expect to have fun!
What is your denomination?
We have people from all kinds of denominational backgrounds in our church and many from no church background. It is our goal to teach the bible and hold to the bible as our main guide for all that we do. We call ourselves non-denomination because it is our goal to attract those who do not go to church or who have not yet made a decision to become a believer of Christ. Many who are unchurched would not consider going to a denominational church because they are not that denomination. The unchurched are more likely to go to a church that does not have a denominational tag on it. Our goal is to attract the unchurched and be biblically correct.
Why not be an independent church?
We are! We are an autonomous, self-governed, body of believers. We budget, buy and build as we feel the Holy Spirit leading us. We are supported by Baptist and non-denominational mission agencies and we support Baptist, non-denominational and independent missions. Christ is the Head of the church and thus we seek His leadership in all that we do.
Are you "Charismatic"?
This can be a misleading question. We believe that every Christian is charismatic, that is filled with the Holy Spirit upon accepting Christ into one's life. Although not all Christians practice the daily yielding to His power and control. No, we are not Charismatic in the denominational sense. Yes, we are charismatic in that we believe that real, authentic, Spirit-filled worship is attractive to those who are unchurched as well as necessary for believers. We believe that genuine expressions of worship such as lifting of hands, clapping, closing your eyes, singing, are proper and necessary. However, we also believe that disorderly worship is confusing to non-believers and those who are unchurched. The Apostle Paul tells us to be orderly in our worship so we attract the unchurched and non-believers, 1 Corinthians 14:33. Our goal is to create an environment where you can bring YOUR FRIENDS who do not know Christ and sense authentic worship and love for God and for themselves, without being turned off by things that they do not understand. As much as we believe in authentic worship, we will have all eternity to worship God in heaven with all the passion we want. We only have a short while to influence our friends and loved ones to come to know Christ, so that they can join in the praise and worship.
